"Let us not seek to build a society where only the privileged learn.
Education must reach the last and the lost."

WHY EDUCATION

Education is not just a right — it is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and building a just, empowered society. Yet, millions in India are still denied this fundamental opportunity. According to the 2021 National Statistical Office (NSO) survey, the overall literacy rate in India stands at around 77.7%, but in rural areas and among marginalized communities, the numbers are significantly lower, especially for girls.

UNESCO reports that over 6 million children in India are out of school. In many tribal and backward regions, school attendance is a struggle due to poverty, child labor, gender bias, and a lack of access to resources. Girls are especially at risk — with one in five dropping out before completing primary education.

The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2023 reveals another alarming fact: more than 50% of children in grade 5 cannot read a basic grade 2-level text. This learning gap is a silent crisis — one that holds back generations from reaching their potential.

At Astitva Foundation, we believe that education is the most powerful tool to shape futures. Whether it's through free tuition classes, school kit distributions, digital learning support, or awareness campaigns, our goal is to reach the unreached and inspire the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers.

WHAT WE DO
We run regular education drives focused on empowering underserved communities. These include awareness sessions on menstrual health and hygiene, basic computer literacy classes, and foundational education for children who are not enrolled in school. Our aim is to create access to knowledge where it's needed most — fostering confidence, self-reliance, and long-term transformation. Education, we believe, is the first step to breaking generational cycles of inequality.
